Honestly I was ambivalent towards Meljay the first time I watched Arcane but watching the fandom shit all over Mel for “getting in the way” of Jayvik and minimize and twist her canon relationship with Jayce into an act of political manipulation or a stepping stone towards their preferred ship has turned me into a real #meljaystan Get it girl
I feel like deja vu from being a Vivienne fan except Mel has the misfortune of being a canon wrench in the popular MLM ship. It's so disgusting going into her tag and seeing these posts about how how relationship with Jayce is gross or unethical combined with whining about Jayvik. Some of these people have the gall to call Jayvik queerbaiting as if there were not a CANON QUEER ROMANCE in the show. No Vi and Caitlyn didn't kiss/have sex/declare their undying love but do NOT try to pretend they aren't a romance. They had a literal break-up scene.
(But people making these arguments don't care about a WLW couple)
It's just so...idk disheartening? To see fans go out of their way to hate a character for interfering with a ship that was literally never going to be canon. And I know this kind of hate happens to all sorts of female characters, but it does honestly seem like there's always some reason fans can turn up to dislike prominent Black characters. Bleh. Anyway I will stan Mel all the harder.
