Yeah, this is how I felt too. There's a particular kind of obfuscation of a story that is covering up for not really having answers (I had this problem with "The Starless Sea" last month) and that becomes frustrating rather than intriguing for the reader. Where Muir hints at things and leads you up to the edge of a realization you can't really make until she drops the final piece, this one just sort of felt like it was scattering crumbs and expecting me to find a shape in the way they fell.

Absolutely! Having finished this book I still feel no clearer on the actual plot than I did in the first third of the book TT_TT
This almost felt like an early draft of something which could have been cooler with a lot more polish. There's some interesting things in it, but it's just too incoherent.
