I recently started playing it too. The writing is gorgeous, and I so far I found it's more interesting when I take the ... for lack of a better word, unhinged options.
Although that had the effect of lowering my character's morale so much that in my first play, he didn't even get so far as to look at the body, because he had a mental breakdown while talking to the little girl in front of the bookshop and apparently decided to stop being a cop and go live under a bridge. So I decided to just start another playthrough and see how far that gets me.
